Follow the steps below to configure Microsoft IIS on all nodes in the cluster.

Installing and Configuring Microsoft IIS Websites or FTP Sites

To pair a website or FTP site, you must create a corresponding site on each node and configure the sites identically. Alternatively, you may choose to protect the default website or FTP site. Follow the steps below to create sites on each node.

  1. Bring the IP address and volume resources into service on the primary node.
  2. Launch Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager from Windows Administrative Tools in the Start menu. Use IIS Manager to create both the Primary and Standby sites.
  3. In the Connections pane on the left, right-click the server node and select Add Website to start the Add Website wizard.
Enter a site name. The site name must be identical (including case) on both the primary and standby nodes.
  4. Specify the physical path for the site.
The physical path may be located on shared storage or replicated storage protected by LifeKeeper for Windows. In either case, the volume must be in service and the directory must already exist.
  5. FTP sites only:
Click Next to proceed to configuring bindings and SSL.
  6. Enter the port and hostname values. Ensure that these values are the same on both the primary and standby nodes.
  7. Select the switchable IP address from the drop-down list or enter it manually.
If the resource protecting the switchable IP address is out of service, the IP address may not appear in the list; however, it can still be entered manually.
    • In general, the primary and standby sites must use the same switchable IP address.
    • When used with an IP Address resource that protects a physical (real) IP address, different IP addresses may be configured for the primary and standby sites.
  8. When configuring multiple sites on a web server, assign a different switchable IP address to each site.
If multiple sites use the same switchable IP address, each site must be configured with a unique hostname.
  9. Select the appropriate user authentication method for the site.
  10. Start the Microsoft IIS site on the primary node and verify that it is accessible and functioning correctly before proceeding.
  11. Bring the switchable IP address and any protected volumes into service on the standby node.
  12. Repeat steps 2 through 10 to create the corresponding site on the standby node.
The paired websites or FTP sites must have identical configurations on both nodes.

After creating and configuring all IIS sites, complete the following steps:

  1. Bring the switchable IP address and any protected volumes into service on the primary node.
  2. Using IIS Manager, start the site on the primary node and stop the site on the standby node.

If the protected FTP site does not allow anonymous login, you must configure the LifeKeeper for Windows deep check process to perform a non-anonymous login. For details, see the Protecting FTP Sites with Non-Anonymous Login.
