Before proceeding with the steps in this section, ensure that the storage and network configurations recommended in the previous section have been completed.

Installation Sequence

The installation and configuration steps must be performed in the following order (see the referenced topics for details on each step):

  1. Install and configure LifeKeeper Core, including RK for IP Address and RK for IIS, on each node. Details are provided in this section.
  2. Install and configure IIS on all nodes.
For more information, see Installing and Configuring Microsoft IIS on All Nodes.

Installing LifeKeeper for Windows and Recovery Kits

Install LifeKeeper for Windows, including RK for IP Address and RK for IIS, on all servers. For detailed installation instructions, see Installing LifeKeeper for Windows. The same version of LifeKeeper for Windows must be installed on all servers.

After installing LifeKeeper for Windows, reboot all servers. Once the servers have restarted, verify that LifeKeeper for Windows is running on each server. You can then proceed with configuring LifeKeeper for Windows.

Creating a DataKeeper for Windows Mirror

When using replicated volumes, you must create a mirror. For details, refer to the LifeKeeper for Windows Installation Guide.

Configuring LifeKeeper for Windows and Recovery Kits

The correct sequence for setting up LifeKeeper for Windows is shown below. For detailed instructions on configuring LifeKeeper for Windows, click the Help button or see Configuration.

Configure the communication paths. For best results, use a private network between the two nodes. To improve communication reliability, create two or more communication paths.

Create a volume resource for the physical path of the Web/FTP site. Perform a volume resource switchover to verify that the volume can be brought into service on either the primary or standby node. Also, ensure that the priorities assigned to the protected IP address and volume resources are the same on each node.
