Before creating an IIS resource hierarchy, ensure that the associated volume resources and IP address resources (if required) have already been created.

To create an IIS resource on the primary node, complete the following steps:

  1. From the dropdown list accessed by clicking the Operations button on the Resource Tree screen, select Create Resource Hierarchy.
  2. When the Resource Hierarchy Creation screen appears, select the node on which you want to create the resource, choose IIS from the Application Recovery Kit dropdown list, and click Next.
  3. Select the service type (WEB or FTP).
  4. Accept the displayed Site Name or select Enter a new one from the dropdown list, and then click Next.
LifeKeeper for Windows generates this list from the IIS configuration information.
  5. Select whether to enable or disable connection checking for the site.
If enabled, LifeKeeper for Windows periodically checks the connection to ensure that the IIS site is operating normally.
    The default setting is Enable.
  6. If connection checking is enabled, enter the URL to be used.
LifeKeeper for Windows uses this URL to periodically verify proper operation of the IIS site.
If no URL is entered, the connection check uses the IP address and port number configured for the IIS site.
    Click Next.
  7. If FTP is selected as the service type and connection checking is enabled with a URL specified, you may choose whether to use FTP over SSL for connection checking.
  • Select Enable to use FTP over SSL
  • Select Disable to not use FTP over SSL
    The default setting is Disable.
    Click Next.
  1. As with the Site Name, accept the displayed Site Tag or enter a new Site Tag.
  2. Select whether to enable or disable local recovery.
If enabled, LifeKeeper for Windows attempts to recover the failed resource on the local system before initiating a failover to the standby system.
To prevent local recovery for this resource, disable this option.
    Click Next.
  3. After verifying that all entered values are correct, click Execute to create the IIS resource hierarchy.

LifeKeeper for Windows validates the data you provide when creating a resource hierarchy. If a problem is detected, an error message is displayed in the information box. If validation is successful, the resource is created and the execution log and results are displayed on the screen.
