Changing the network interface card (NIC) interrupts any sites using IP addresses managed by that NIC.

This behavior occurs because LifeKeeper for Windows stores the NIC model information in the Switchable IP resource configuration. Since this information cannot be modified directly, you must remove and recreate the Switchable IP resources using the procedure below:

  1. Take all IP address resources associated with the NIC being replaced, along with their dependent resources, out of service, and then delete them.
  2. Replace the NIC. Depending on the environment, environment-specific procedures may be required (for example, powering off the server before the replacement and powering it back on afterward).
  3. Restore the previously removed resource hierarchy. This process involves recreating the IP address, its associated dependent resources, and all corresponding dependencies. Ensure you select the name of the new NIC during network interface selection, using the data recorded in Note 1 as a guide.
