There are multiple ways to extend an IIS resource hierarchy. The Extend Resource Hierarchy screen can be accessed using any of the following methods:
- Click the Operations button on the Resource Tree screen and select Extend Resource Hierarchy from the dropdown list.
- Right-click the IIS resource you want to extend in the resource tree and select Extend Resource Hierarchy from the context menu.
- After completing Create Resource Hierarchy, click Extend Resource Hierarchy on the dialog screen to continue.
Extending the IIS resource hierarchy is performed in the following order:

| Primary Server | From the list of currently connected nodes with administrator privileges, select the primary node that has the IIS resource hierarchy defined and is in service. |
| Resource | Select the IIS resource hierarchy to be extended. |
| Standby Server | Select the standby node where you want to place the extended hierarchy. Valid values for this selection are all connected nodes that have administrator privileges and a valid communication path to the primary node. |
- Primary Server: Select the source server from the dropdown list.
- Resource: Select the resource tag of the existing IIS resource from the Resource drop-down list.:Select the resource tag of the existing IIS resource from the Resource dropdown list.
- Standby Server: Select the target server from the drop-down list. If necessary, adjust the standby priority on the target server, and then click Next.
- Pre-extend checks of your IIS resources will be performed and the results will be displayed. If there are no problems, click Next to proceed to the advanced settings screen.
- Select the switchback type for the IIS resource. A list of dependent resources is displayed, but the IIS resource tag cannot be edited. Click Next.
- After verifying that the entered values are correct, click Execute to extend the IIS resource.
- The IIS resource is extended and the execution log and results are displayed on the screen. Click Close to complete the extension.
