The LifeKeeper for Linux Recovery Kit for IP Address provides a mechanism to recover an IP address from a failed primary server to a backup server in a LifeKeeper environment. The Recovery Kit for IP Address can define an IP address that can be used to connect to a LifeKeeper-protected application. As with other LifeKeeper resources, IP resource switchovers can be initiated automatically as a result of a failure or manually by an administrative action.
The Recovery Kit for IP Address supports the implementation of the TCP/IP protocol suite using secondary addresses on existing network interfaces, allowing it to provide switchover and failover of IP addresses without requiring extra standby network interface cards or dummy IP addresses. Starting with Release 7.4, the IP Recovery Kit supports both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.
